Straighten Your Smile and Boost Your Confidence with Orthodontics
Drs. John and Joshua Lee are highly skilled dentists who design and implement orthodontics treatment at our Irving, TX, practice to gently shift teeth into optimal position. Properly aligned teeth allow patients to maintain better oral hygiene and can dramatically enhance the smile's appearance. Further, proper alignment evenly distributes the force of your bite, which can benefit long-term oral health. At Kids & Grownups Dental, we provide an array of orthodontics, including traditional braces and clear aligners, to meet our patients' individual needs. After orthodontic treatment, patients frequently report increased levels of confidence, sociability, and urge to smile.
Why Orthodontics Are Important
Misaligned teeth (malocclusion) makes it difficult to keep your teeth adequately clean, which can lead to tooth decay and gum disease. Dental misalignment and improper jaw placement can also lead to disorders of the temporomandibular joints (TMJ), teeth grinding, jaw clenching, and neck and shoulder pain.
Properly aligned teeth allow patients to maintain better oral hygiene and can dramatically enhance the smile's appearance.
During your initial consultation, your doctor will take x-rays and impressions of your teeth to determine the extent of dental misalignment. After explaining all the options available and the costs involved, your doctor will create a treatment plan.
Reasons for Orthodontic Treatment
Orthodontics can correct a variety of dental issues, including:
- Crooked teeth
- Crowded teeth
- Gapped teeth
- Widely spaced teeth
- Misaligned teeth
- Bite issues (crossbite, overbite, underbite, open bite)
Types of Orthodontics Provided
At Kids & Grownups Dental, we provide three different types of orthodontics.
- Traditional Braces: This orthodontic treatment uses metal brackets and arch wires, as well as elastic ligatures, to gradually realign teeth through mild pressure. Brackets are placed on the front of each tooth with dental adhesive, connected with flexible arch wires, and held in place with the elastics (better known as rubber bands). At each appointment, Dr. Lee will tighten the arch wires to gently guide the teeth into the correct position. The length of treatment will depend on the complexity of dental misalignment, but in most cases, traditional braces are worn anywhere from 18 to 36 months.
- MTM® Clear Aligner: This orthodontic treatment is virtually invisible and suitable for adult patients interested in straightening their smile without the clunky appearance of metal braces. If you have overly crowded or unevenly spaced teeth, MTM Clear Aligners can correct mild dental misalignment. However, for bite issues and severe dental misalignment, you may benefit more from traditional braces. With MTM Clear Aligners, the doctor will take impressions of your smile and provide a set of aligners. Each aligner needs to be worn at least 22 hours per day over a specific period of time before upgrading to the next aligner. You can easily remove your aligner to enjoy your favorites foods and to thoroughly brush and floss your teeth. Treatment will take anywhere from three to 12 months.
- Fastbraces®: Similar in style to traditional braces, Fastbraces differ in the way they move teeth. This technology uses a unique bracket shape and ideal bracket placement to immediately begin shifting the roots of the teeth, significantly reducing treatment time. We also provide a clear, ceramic bracket option for adult patients interested in less noticeable approach to straightening their smile. Treatment can take as little as three to six months.
